Dr Grady Bray is a behavioural scientist with an international reputation as a disaster psychologist, lecturer, author, and mass fatality response specialist. He is a disaster family assistance authority who has developed programs and provided response to numerous United States government agencies including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, National Transportation Safety Board, National Disaster Medical System and USAID. He has appeared as a subject matter expert on such diverse programs as the TODAY show, The Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, Good Morning America and was featured in an NBC Dateline segment which focused on surviving high rise fires. He provided consultation, assessment and training to the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea focused on the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire.
Dr Bray received his PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia in August of 1974 and went on to work as a clinical psychologist with the Georgia Department of Human Resources.
In response to an invitation from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York, Dr Bray joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Preventive, Family and Rehabilitation Medicine in 1977 and remained with the medical school until 1984. During his time in New York, Dr Bray also served as the Yates County Coroner (NY).
Dr Bray is Chief Operating Officer for Disaster Management International, which provides insurance-based disaster and crisis response and a Senior Associate for GoCrisis. Dr Bray served as an adjunct and frequent presenter for FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute and was a founder and the first Behavioral Scientist for the United States government’s Disaster Mortuary Operations Response Team (DMORT). He has worked on more than 20 aviation crashes, multiple domestic and international natural disasters-including the Thailand tsunami, major hurricanes, earthquakes and mass fatality terrorism events.
Dr Bray serves on several advisory boards and has helped create mass fatality plans/programs for national governments, state and local jurisdictions, corporations and companies.
